ELECTRIC SAFETY: DO I REALLY NEED TO CALL 811 BEFORE I DIG?

May 19, 2018

The answer is always YES! 811 is a FREE service, paid for by the utility companies to protect you, your employees, or your tenants. Don’t make a judgement call with other people’s lives. Whether it be electric, water, or gas lines, call 811 before any digging project.

Sometimes we forget about our home's electrical needs until something starts to go wrong. Maybe your breakers trip more often, lights flicker when certain things are plugged in, or appliances are in use, or you find yourself relying on multiple extension cords because your home does not have enough outlets. While these issues may seem small at first, they can point to a larger problem behind the scenes and, if left untreated, ultimately raise safety concerns. Over the years, homes have continued to add larger appliances, smart technology, and updated HVAC systems, and older homes built with outdated panels may struggle to keep up with the increased demand. An outdated panel can lead to overloaded circuits, inconsistent power, or even shutdowns. There are a few common signs that it may be time for an upgrade. Frequent breaker trips, buzzing sounds near the panel, scorch marks, or panels that still use fuses instead of breakers are all worth having inspected by a licensed electrician. At Babcon Electric, we help homeowners across Central Kentucky evaluate whether their electrical system is keeping up with their everyday needs. Our licensed electricians provide professional electrical inspections, panel upgrades, and honest recommendations to help keep your home safe and efficient. A properly functioning electrical panel helps your home run more smoothly and gives you confidence that your system is ready for whatever your household demands next.

As the hot summer months approach, your air conditioning system quickly becomes one of the most used systems in your home. What many homeowners don't realize is that their electrical wiring plays a major role in keeping their AC running smoothly and efficiently all summer long. As AC units work harder, they place added demand on your home's electrical system. Older wiring, loose connections, or overloaded circuits may struggle to keep up. This can lead to tripped breakers, inconsistent cooling, or even safety risks, such as overheating. These issues often surface during peak summer heat, when your system is working hardest, and you need temperature control the most. An inspection with a licensed electrician can identify worn components, ensure your circuits can handle the load, and catch early signs of trouble before they affect your comfort. At Babcon Electric, we help homeowners across Richmond and Central Kentucky stay ahead of seasonal electrical demands with professional electrical inspections, panel evaluations, and wiring upgrades. As a trusted electrical contractor in Central Kentucky, our licensed electricians make sure your system is safe, efficient, and ready to support your air conditioning all summer long. A quick inspection now can help you avoid unexpected issues later so that you can count on a cool, comfortable, and safe home all season.
